Powerful Pupil Voice!

What a fantastic morning we had at the Highland Council Headquarters today! As part of our IDL topic ‘Decision, Decisions’ we teamed up with Glenurquhart Primary, who are also looking at democracy,  to find out about the role of local Councillors and how decisions are made at local level.  We were lucky enough to meet and have input from local Councillors  Margaret Davidson, Janet Campbell, Gordon Morrison, Emma Knox, George Cruickshank and Jimmy Gray.

After holding a very interesting question and answer session with the Councillors, Glenurquhart Primary and Crown Primary then went head to head to debate the following questions:

  • Is it right to protect people by culling sharks?

  • Should people be punished for wasting food?

I was so impressed with the debating skills of both Glenurquhart and Crown pupils – as were the Councillors!

The debate concluded Crown Primary 1 – 1 Glenurquhart Primary with two very proud teachers indeed!
